Novel Tensile Test Jig and Mechanical Properties of WC-Co Synthesized by SHIP and HIP Process

Tungsten carbide-cobalt (WC-Co) alloys have various mechanical properties according to their Co content and manufacturing method. High-strength materials such as WC-Co are usually manufactured using sintering methods. In this study, was compared the method sinter-hot isostatic pressing process. Furthermore, an additional test performed investigate effect of post-hot (HIP) treatment on properties. To compare tensile strength, threaded end shoulder specimens generally applied in axial testing with hard metals. However, it is extremely difficult shape by machining. A jig for a specimen is, therefore, proposed. Tensile tests were conducted proposed jig, microstructure, hardness, impact carried out The microstructure evolution obtained decreasing applying HIP treatment, resulting changes Young’s modulus strength. results indicated that could be WC-Co, modified control.
